Over in Europe the EETimes are reporting from London that the global demand for NAND flash memory is expected to increase by 130% year-on-year. All major user segments are stepping up their demand rapidly for various consumer electronics using NAND flash memory for items and gadgets such as digital cameras, mobile handsets, mp3-players and of course also regular and customized USB flash drives and promotional memory sticks.
DRAMeXchange predicts dynamical growth for the worldwide wholesale of promotional USB flash drives, which will grow by 25% year-on-year according to the researchers to be worth $170 million.
Most insiders of the NAND chip markets and wholesalers of USB flash drives agree that Apple will continue to influence the price tendencies on the flash spot-market by their increasing demands and growing contractual NAND flash purchase. Apple does normally start to sharply increase its procurement levels during the third quarter and reaches its peak at the end of the last quarter.
Anticipations are that this will lead to a supply shortages and possible price increases during the early part of the third quarter.
