| Hi Karen, thank you for your comment and your question! There are indeed several software solutions available that manage to achieve just what you target: syncing of data via TCP/IP networks aka the internet. We are currently implementing a secure custom backup/sync solution based on open source code. In case you want to find out more, we recommend that you check out the USB/IP Project over at Sourceforge: http://usbip.sourceforge.net/ Allow us to quote from their description: --- quote on --- The USB/IP Project aims to develop a general USB device sharing system over IP network. To share USB devices between computers with their full functionality, USB/IP encapsulates "USB I/O messages" into TCP/IP payloads and transmits them between computers. Original USB device drivers and applications can be also used for remote USB devices without any modification of them. A computer can use remote USB devices as if they were directly attached; for example, we can ... * USB storage devices: fdisk, mkfs, mount/umount, file operations, play a DVD movie and record a DVD-R media. It is currently implemented as Linux device drivers and available under the open source license GPL. Its I/O performance is enough practical in local area network for all types of devices, including isochronous devices, without any modification of Linux-original USB device drivers. --- quote off --- This can be ported to OS X, and with some additional efforts even a Windows version is possible. We're looking forward to updating you regarding this, and further introduce to you highly usable software solutions that significantly increase the advantages of USB flash memory in combination with cloud computing. Thanks and with regards, MemoTrek Support |
