 USB NAND Flash Memory Prices 2007
Starting from Monday this week we’ve seen that several resellers and b2b traders of USB flash drives are increasing their purchase volumes to offset and stock up for the Chinese National Day on 1st Oct. and its one-week national holiday. Experience shows that the price will go up after this holiday and that main actors on the NAND flash spot market in Hong Kong, especially the local Hong Kong and Taiwanese players, are likely to push up the prices.
During 2007 the NAND flash spot market price has been subject to several drastic changes, causing heavy losses for many USB flash resellers, b2b whole-sellers and also for manufacturers and assemblies of USB memory here in Shenzhen. One of the reasons for this market turbulence has been the increased demand on the contracting market, pulled by the Apples’ new iPhone and strong sales of iPods as well as other downstream vendors increasing their sales figures. Being hit by these losses more and more of those players, also the resellers in the downstream market with an economy to afford it start to stock up higher volumes, thereby wanting to buffer-off future increases. We at MemoTrek believe that the price increase expected when the Chinese holidays are over is not going to be too big and probably should not be of more than around 15%. It is yet too early to make any forecasts on the price situation for the pre-Christmas prices this year. For this we will need to observe how the prices develop after the holidays and during end of October.
