Longer queues might lead to minor delays
Longer queues might lead to minor delays
Certainly we're all looking forward to the Olympic Games this year in Beijing, and many traders and business people active in the China, as well as frequent travelers to the Mainland are anticipating not only the opening ceremony, but also the end of this big sports event and the return to business as usual. As general control tightens and affects already many aspects of daily life in China, such as stricter controls for travelers, limitations for domestic shipping etc, it is first since this last business week that we can report affects on foreign trade and exports from first-hand experience:

Due to increased security controls also during export of products from China Mainland custom clearances and checks take longer time than before, leading to occasional delays and pilling up of consignments for clearance. Both ourselves and our partners from various other industries have been experiencing unexpected minor delays for some shipments. Fortunately, these delays are usually only an extra 1-2 days, but can still cause troubles and inconveniences for our customers who expect delivery of their customized USB flash drives right on time and as usual.

We are closely monitoring the developments here on the front line of the action and are doing our best to find ways to circumvent these obstacles. Still we wish to kindly ask our customers to calculate with the slightly longer time of an extra 1-2 days when placing their orders. This situation can be expected to hold on to the end of August, but we will keep you posted on any news or developments during the following weeks.

Hi there guys, I'm wondering if this also affects smaller volumes or orders for other products I've placed with trading companies in China? When do you expect it to return back to normal?

Thanks!

  Hello Hendrik,

and thanks for your comments! As far as we know this issue has a broad effect on most export oriented trading businesses throughout the country.

But don't worry - it is not a major issue - just make sure that you leave room for an extra day or two when you schedule your ordering.

We expect everything to return to normal shortly after the Olympics, beginning of September.

For any more detailed questions please feel free to contact us directly, we're always glad to help you out with advice!

Have a nice day,

I have a supplier say they tried to send phone chargers and packaging to me through three different couriers. They said they wont allow them to ship my products until after the olympics.

Is this true?

  Hi Michael,

and thanks for your comment!

This sounds in fact quite likely: phone chargers are usually not allowed e.g on planes (as hand luggage) in larger volumes, as these can be misused to build harmful devices. As we ship USB flash drives and haven't been using our DHL/UPS forwarders for any phone chargers yet, we cannot confirm this with 100% certainty, but it sounds likely to us that this is actually the case and that it might be difficult to ship them.

If you cannot wait until after the Olympics (beginning of October) when things are expected to gradually return to normal, then you could consider to find an alternate supplier here in Hong Kong who has this product on stock. They might be able to send it out from Hong Kong.

Feel free to contact us fur any further inquiries,
and wishing you a nice day,
